Honors & Awards

Benita Chatmon, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE, Assistant Dean for Clinical Nursing Education and Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing, was recognized as a National Black Nurses Association 2021 Under 40 Awardee. The Under 40 Award honors and celebrates NBNA members 40 years old and younger who have shown strong leadership in nursing and demonstrated excellence and innovation in their practice setting, NBNA chapters, and in the communities they serve.

Demetrius Porche, DNS, PhD, ANEF, FACHE, FAANP, FAAN, Professor and Dean of the LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing, received a Hall of Fame Award during the 2021 Louisiana State Nurses Association Nightingale Awards.

Sherry Rivera, DNP, APRN, ANP-C, Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing, was named a City Business Health Care Hero for 2021.

Appointments

Kendra M. Barrier, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE, Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing, will serve as the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) inaugural Chair-Elect for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership Network. She will also continue to serve on the AACN DEI Steering Committee.

Leanne H. Fowler, DNP, MBA, APRN, AGACNP-BC, CNE, Program Director, Nurse Practitioner Programs and Program Coordinator, Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Concentration, was promoted to Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing.

Media Appearances

Leanne H. Fowler, DNP, MBA, APRN, AGACNP-BC, CNE, Program Director, Nurse Practitioner Programs; Program Coordinator, Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Concentration; and Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing, was a guest on Conversations with Ed Marshall on WLAE in May. Dr. Fowler shared her expertise and insights on the importance of getting the COVID-19 vaccine and the impact vaccinations have had in reducing hospitalizations and mortality rates in our communities.
