Early next year, LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing students and medical professionals at University Medical Center will have the opportunity to be the first to move into the school’s new student living center.
The more than 324,000-square-foot Residences at LSU Health building is the first newly built student housing in New Orleans in over half a century. When complete, it will feature 186 apartments and dorm rooms; secure ground-level parking below the building for tenants; and indoor and outdoor recreational areas, including a fitness room, lounge, meeting space and a courtyard with a pool and BBQ area. The building will also feature seven upper-floor lounge study areas.
“This family- and pet-friendly housing will support our students, faculty, staff and medical professionals looking to live within walking distance of our campus and two major hospitals.”
Warren Gottsegen, LSU Health Foundation Board Chair
Located at 615 S. Johnson Street, the building will be connected to the Medical Education Building by an elevated, covered walkway for easy and quick access to classrooms, labs, library and cafeteria.
“This family- and pet-friendly housing will support our students, faculty, staff and medical professionals looking to live within walking distance of our campus and two major hospitals,” said LSU Health Foundation Board Chair Warren Gottsegen.
Matt Altier, President and CEO of the Foundation, said the development of the building is a public/private partnership that yielded over $100 million in private capital investment.
The Foundation is unveiling the Excellence Endowment, a capital campaign for naming rights for the new complex, which includes the naming of the entire building and parts of the building like the courtyard, small park and green space. Because the new residence facility is already fully funded, all gifts to the endowment will support scholarships or research.
