Over the last several months, LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing administration and faculty members have been recognized with prestigious awards, fellowships and leadership positions that recognize their commitment to their students, colleagues and advancement of the nursing profession.

Dean Porche Recognized With Prestigious NLN Award

Demetrius Porche, DNS, PhD, ANEF, FACHE, FAANP, FAAN, Professor and Dean of the School of Nursing, has been recognized as the National League for Nursing (NLN) Mary Adelaide Nutting Awardee for Outstanding Teaching or Leadership in Nursing Education. The NLN awards committee was unanimous in their decision to award Dr. Porche this prestigious national recognition for nurse educators. He will be honored with his award at the NLN Educational Summit on September 28-30, 2023, in Washington, D.C.

Two Faculty Members Inducted as Fellows of AANP

Leanne H. Fowler, DNP, MBA, APRN, AGACNP-BC, CNE, FAANP, Program Director of Nurse Practitioner Programs, Program Coordinator of the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Concentration and Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing, and Sherry Rivera, DNP, APRN, ANP-C, FNKF, FAANP Program Director of the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Concentration and Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing, were inducted as Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) on June 22 at the 2023 AANP National Conference in New Orleans. Recognized for their outstanding achievements and exemplary service, Dr. Fowler, Dr. Rivera and 61 other new 2023 AANP Fellows join an elite and diverse group of 908 NPs who have made, and continue to make, a positive and profound impact on national and global health. AANP is the largest professional membership organization for nurse practitioners of all specialties, providing legislative leadership at the local, state and national levels; advancing health policy; promoting excellence in practice, education and research; and establishing standards that best serve NPs’ patients.

Dr. Fowler To Be Inducted as American Academy of Nursing Fellow

Dr. Fowler will also be inducted into the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) as a fellow in October 2023. She joins 252 other distinguished nurse leaders into the 2023 Class of Fellows recognized for their substantial, sustained and outstanding impact on health and health care at the Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference on October 5-7, 2023, in Washington, D.C. Academy fellows include more than 3,000 experts in policy, research, administration, practice and academia that champion health and wellness, locally and globally.

Dr. Manning Elected Board President of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists

Jennifer Manning, DNS, ACNS-BC, CNE, Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Nursing Program, Program Director of the Baccalaureate Articulation Program, and Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing, has been elected to serve as President of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists Board of Directors. NACNS is the only national association representing clinical nurse specialists in the United States. Dr. Manning is one of five new board members elected and the only one from Louisiana.

Dr. Davis Elected as Treasurer-Secretary for INACSL Board of Directors

Alison Davis, PhD, RN, CNE, CHSE

Elected to the 2023-24 Board of Directors, Alison Davis, PhD, RN, CNE, CHSE, Interim Associate Dean for Nursing Research, Scholarship and Science, Director of the Nurse Educator Concentration, and Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing, will support the International Nursing Association of Clinical and Simulation Learning (INACSL) in advancing the science of health care simulation. INACSL is made up of simulation experts and allied health professionals whose skills, expertise, knowledge and experience help provide the highest levels of educational training and practice to improve outcomes for patients.
