Notes from the Alumni Association Annual Meeting
The School of Nursing held its Alumni Association annual meeting on September 26, 2024, at the New Orleans Yacht Club from 5 to 8 p.m.
At the meeting, Dean Demetrius Porche, DNS, PhD, ANEF, FACHE, FAANP, FAAN, updated the audience on the School of Nursing, continued efforts to increase membership, and voted on and approved the revised bylaws.
Our 90th Anniversary Gala
At the 90th Anniversary Gala on November 18, 2023, the School of Nursing was proud to recognize the remarkable contributions of its alumni through a series of honors and awards.
Additionally, we inducted several esteemed alumni into our Hall of Fame and celebrated all of our outstanding alumni. These awards and recognitions reflect the incredible impact that alumni have on both the school and the greater healthcare community. Congratulations to all!
Alumni Association Recognition of Class Spirit Award Recipients
These awards are presented at Fall Conferral of Degrees and Spring Commencement to both an undergraduate and graduate student whose efforts and ability to carry through were always in the best interest of the class, and whose specific performance demonstrated accountability, maturity and peer support.
In December 2023, two individuals were celebrated for their dedication and excellence:
- Thao (Chip) Doan was awarded the Undergraduate Spirit Award for his commitment to supporting his classmates and enthusiasm and dedication through all activities in the best interest of the class.
- Colleen Story was honored with the Graduate Spirit Award, recognized for her leadership and dedication to fostering a positive class environment.
In May 2024, we once again honored two outstanding individuals:
- Kentrel Johnson, recipient of the Undergraduate Spirit Award, was acknowledged for his continued dedication to his fellow classmates.
- Angele Hopp, the Graduate Spirit Award recipient, was celebrated for her exceptional contributions and leadership within her program.
