The JBI gLocal Solution Room is a free, weeklong, global event that aims to provide pragmatic solutions to challenges in applying evidence into practice in local settings around the world. Local JBI affiliates and centers conduct the sessions, which aim to help health professionals implement evidence-based practices in their clinical settings.

JBI is a global organization that promotes and supports evidence-based decisions that improve health and health service delivery. In 2011, the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing established the first Center for Evidence-Based Nursing in Louisiana as a JBI Affiliate Center. In 2017, the Center was renamed The Louisiana Centre for Promotion of Optimal Health Outcomes: A JBI Centre of Excellence.

In June 2024, JBI and 36 JBI collaborating entities hosted 29 events in 18 countries worldwide, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Romania, India, Denmark, Switzerland, Japan, Thailand and China. The events were held online and in person. Local Solution Rooms featured panels of clinicians and implementation experts who directly addressed participant questions regarding evidence-based practice challenges.

“These solution rooms are conducted by local JBI affiliates and centers with a focus on global dissemination and impact,” says Demetrius Porche, DNS, PhD, ANEF, FACHE, FAANP, FAAN, Dean of the LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans School of Nursing.

The School of Nursing’s JBI Centre of Excellence hosted “Facilitation of Evidence into Practice: Facilitator Role and Facilitation Process” on June 6. The session had 22 attendees, primarily academics and clinicians from across Louisiana. This Solution Room discussed facilitation in evidence implementation within an academic medical center and a children’s hospital. Takeaways included facilitation strategies like academic partnerships, fellowship programs, nurse residency evidence-based practice support, nursing quality council support and financial support for conference presentations.

Presenters included Dr. Porche; Clair Millet, DNP, APRN, PHCNS-BC, Director of Nursing Continuing Professional Development & Entrepreneurial Enterprise and Assistant Professor in Clinical Nursing; Heather Brooks, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, Nurse Practitioner and Co-Chair of the Nursing Research & Evidence-Based Practice Council at University Medical Center New Orleans; and Elena Vidrine, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, PED-BC, Clinical Director of Nursing Education/Professional Development and Co-Chair of the Evidence-Based Practice & Research Committee at Children’s Hospital New Orleans.

“This important forum illustrates how global knowledge informs local evidence-based practices and how local experiences influence global thinking in evidence-based health care,” Dr. Millet says. “By facilitating connections between global expertise and local contexts, the event strives to improve patient care outcomes and reduce the lag time between evidence generation and practice change.”
