Students Attend National Student Nurses’ Association Convention
Accompanied by faculty advisor Elizabeth Hopkins, MSN, RN, Instructor of Clinical Nursing, 15 LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing Student Nurses Association (SNA) members attended the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) Annual Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. Attendees included:

Students participated in a variety of sessions covering National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) preparation, how to set up an American Red Cross shelter after a disaster, professionalism in practice, dealing with trauma, membership in professional organizations and pursuing certifications. Hopkins attended a variety of faculty workshops on diversity, equity and inclusion, Nex-Gen NCLEX, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, active learning strategies and vaccinations.
At the convention, Daniels and Hopkins were honored to accept the Stellar School Award on behalf of the School of Nursing, which reflects five years of activities by the chapter and support and recognition from the school. Our School of Nursing has received this award every cycle.

DNP Students Excel in Student Design Challenge
The Student Design Challenge at the 2022 International Summit & Exhibition on Health Facility Planning, Design & Construction in New Orleans invited students from five schools – two architecture schools, a construction school, an engineering school and a nursing school – to participate in a challenge that involved planning a health care facility in 48 hours. Four Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students from the School of Nursing participated in March 2022, split into teams with the other schools’ students: Jared Batiste, Raymond Gasser, Kelly Walker and Delia Young.
This year’s project was to design a clinic space in the Warehouse District that included primary care, urgent care, academic teaching space for multiple disciplines and add-on options such as a wellness center, a medical home for people experiencing homelessness and telehealth spaces. After 48 hours, the students presented their final plans to conference attendees and were judged by a panel of national experts. Batiste was on the winning team and Young’s team was the runner up.
Nursing Student Accepted Into Veterans Affairs Scholarship Program
BSN student Alexandria Taylor has been accepted into the VA Learning Opportunities Residency (VALOR) Program, which gives outstanding registered nursing students the opportunity to develop their skills at a VA-approved health care facility. Learning opportunities include didactic or classroom experiences, competency-based clinical practice with a qualified RN preceptor and participation in nursing-focused clinical conferences.
