Excellence is not a destination. It’s a continuing journey that requires a shared vision and commitment to leading and transforming the ways we educate, research, practice and reach out to our communities to create positive impacts in nursing science, patient outcomes and public health.
Being recognized once again as a National League for Nursing Center of Excellence™ for promoting the pedagogical expertise of faculty demonstrates our school’s sustained excellence in preparing nurse leaders who go on to provide outstanding patient care, positively influence important health policy and educate the next generation of nurses. In classroom, community, clinical and research settings, our faculty blends health care science, clinical expertise, caring practice and innovative pedagogies to provide the best practice-driven, clinically relevant teaching and learning experiences – and we are committed to providing the resources that allow them to continually grow as pedagogical experts.
Our transition to competency-based education is now underway for our Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice and Doctor of Philosophy programs. This strategic pivot will help us to equip our future graduates with the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to meet evolving needs in the modern health care delivery landscape.
To be a catalyst for a healthier Louisiana, we are working with all of LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans on a strategic plan to:
- Elevate and enhance investment in educational and research endeavors
- Advance and sustain meaningful, collaborative partnerships across all missions
- Expand our influence on health outcomes and health care delivery to address health equity challenges in Louisiana
- Maximize our collective impact as an academic health sciences center
- Transform and optimize our culture and operations
In this issue, you will learn about all the ways we are continuously living up to that Center of Excellence title – from offering student programs focused on developing a diverse nursing workforce and fostering connections among students from their first days on campus to offering support for military-affiliated students and sharing solutions for integrating evidence-based practices in clinical settings with partners around the world.
Everything we have been able to accomplish and will accomplish in the future is possible because of the dedication of our faculty and staff, students, alumni, partners and donors to improving the experiences of our students and the communities we serve.
