Honors & Awards

Kendra Barrier, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE, was appointed President of the New Orleans District Nurses Association. She has served as President-elect since 2019.

The School of Nursing has become a member of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC)! In joining NCHC, we have become part of an international community of educational institutions, professionals and students who are passionate about advancing honors education. NCHC is the oldest and largest organization made up of honors educators and students.

The Face of Nursing

Benita Chatmon, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE, has been featured in The Face of Nursing, an inclusive marketing campaign bythe Louisiana State Nurses Association (LSNA). Dr. Chatmon is a member of New Orleans District Nurses Association, the local chapter of LSNA. The campaign celebrates diversity in the nursing profession and is used by LSNA agencies around the state and its philanthropic foundation, Louisiana Nurses Foundation.

 

Podium Presentations

Katherine Deering, DNP, RN, CPN, CNE, did a podium presentation titled “Implementing an Evidence-Based Tool to Improve Nursing Self-Efficacy of Concussion Assessments” for the Concussion Oversight Committee of the Special Education District of Lake County, Illinois.

Leanne Fowler, DNP, MBA, APRN, AG/ACNP-BC, CNE, did a podium presentation titled “#NPsLead Equitable Healthcare” for the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Jenelle Jacobs, DNP, RN, CNE, ACM, CMSRN, did a podium presentation titled “Utilizing Evidence-Based, Nurse-Driven Protocols to Reduce Hospital Readmissions and Improve Patient Outcomes” for the Southeast Louisiana Area Health Education Center.

Susan Lee, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, did a podium presentation titled “Hypertension: Overview, Treatments, and Comorbidities” for the Southeast Louisiana Area Health Education Center.

Jennifer Manning, DNS, APRN, CNS, CNE, and Marie Adorno, PhD, APRN, CNS, RNC, CNE, did a podium presentation titled “Transition to the Next Generation NCLEX” for LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing Continuing Education.

Jennifer Manning, DNS, APRN, CNS, CNE, was a co-presenter of a podium presentation titled “Engagement: Issues and Solutions During a Pandemic” for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Organizational Leadership Network.

Summer Marshall, DNP, BS, APRN, FNP-C, did a podium presentation titled “A Family Nurse Practitioner Shares a Day on the Front Lines” for the LSU Health New Orleans Foundation.

Aimme McCauley, MSN, RN, did a podium presentation titled “Kundalini Yoga and Self-Care for Practitioners” for the Greater New Orleans Chapter of the American Holistic Nurses Association.

Melissa Nunn, DNP, APRN, CPNP-PC/AC, did a podium presentation titled “Sucrose Solution for Venipuncture” for the Society of Pediatric Nurses and one titled “Advanced Practice Providers: Education, Licensure, and Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants” for Children’s Hospital New Orleans.

Sherry Rivera, DNP, APRN, ANP-C, did a podium presentation titled “Hemodialysis Complications,” was a panel member for a presentation titled “IPE Session: Diabetes Challenging Cases,” and was also a co-presenter for a poster presentation titled “Innovations in AGACNP and AGPCNP Education to Develop a Future Interprofessional Transitional Care Workforce,” all for the National Kidney Foundation’s Spring Clinical Meeting Virtual Conference.

Deborah St. Germain, DNP, RN, CEN, did a podium presentation titled “First Do No Harm: Human Trafficking” for the Child Abuse Webinar Series hosted by the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Michigan.

Poster Presentations

Aimme McCauley, MSN, RN, presented a poster titled “Implementing the Evidenced Use of Chlorhexidine Device Swabs to Reduce Intravenous Catheter-Related Bloodstream Infections” at a virtual session at Chamberlain University.

Connie McKnight, RN, MN, OCN, CRA, presented a poster titled “Secondary Lymphedema: Symptom Experiences and Management Options” at a virtual session of the Oncology Nursing Society Congress.

Publications

Benita Chatmon, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE, had an article titled “Men and Mental Health Stigma” published in the American Journal of Men’s Health; and articles titled “LSNA Sees Surge in Membership” and “The Renewed Reason to Belong: The Presence of Health Organizations” both published in the Pelican News.

Alison Davis, PhD, RN, CHSE; Jennifer Manning, DNS, APRN, CNS, CNE; Deborah St. Germain, DNP, RN, CEN; Sherri Hayes, MSN, RN, CCRN-K, CHSE; and Carley Pigg, Coordinator of Grants and Development in the Office of Nursing Research, Scholarship and Science, had an article titled “Implementing Disaster Simulations for Baccalaureate Nursing Students in the Gulf-Coast Region” published in the journal Clinical Simulation in Nursing.

Leanne Fowler, DNP, MBA, APRN, AG/ACNP-BC, CNE, had an article titled “Nurse Practitioners and Health Inequities–Can We Talk About This More?” published in the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners Kneaux Newsletter.

Deborah Garbee, PhD, APRN, ACNS-BC, FCNS; Julia Tipton, RN, DNS, CPN, CNE; and Andrew Pitt, CRNA, DNP, are among the co-authors of an article titled “Effectiveness of Intrathecal Morphine and PCA Morphine Versus PCA Morphine Alone on Total Morphine Dosage in 24 Hours in Adult Surgery Patients: A Systematic Review” published in JBI Evidence Synthesis.

Jenelle Jacobs, DNP, RN, CNE, ACM, CMSRN, had an article titled “Implementation of an Evidence-Based, Nurse-Driven Sepsis Protocol to Reduce Acute Care Transfer Readmissions in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Setting” published in the journal Rehabilitation Nursing.

Clair Millet, DNP, APRN, PHCNS-BC, co-authored a chapter titled “Creating a Culture of Health and Working With Communities” published in the book Policy & Politics in Nursing and Health Care.

Helen Neil, RN, MSN – HCSM, CLNC, FCN, had an article titled “COVID-19: Legal Issues” published in the journal MEDSURG Nursing.

Appointments

Benita Chatmon, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE, has been appointed as the LSU Health School of Nursing Nurse Researcher at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. She joins a number of faculty members who are active participants on the nursing research council at the hospital, part of our flourishing academic-practice partnership.

Governor John Bel Edwards has appointed two faculty members to the Louisiana COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force. Leanne Fowler, DNP, MBA, APRN, AG/ACNP-BC, CNE, serves on the COVID-19 in Special Populations – Nursing Home Residents subcommittee. Demetrius Porche, DNS, PhD, PCC, ANEF, FACHE, FAANP, FANN, serves on the task force.

Promotions

Jennifer Badeaux, DNP, CRNA, has been promoted to Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing.

Laura Bonanno, PhD, DNP, CRNA, has been promoted to Professor.

Benita Chatmon, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE, has been promoted to Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing.
